The Channel & The Podcast

Straight answers for engineers, minus the corporate polish.

Every week I break down the things nobody teaches you in an engineering degree: how the industry actually hires, where AI is genuinely useful in the field, what the macro numbers mean for your job security, and how to build a reputation without sounding like a brochure.

No gatekeeping, no jargon for its own sake — just the advice I wish someone had handed me in year one at UT.

Fueling Impact

How to Improve Personal Branding in the Oil and Gas Industry

Oil and gas rewards humility and technical rigor — and those values built an industry that is safe, careful and resilient. But they have also left a lot of excellent people invisible: women, early-career talent, and anyone who assumed the work would speak for itself.

It doesn’t. Meritocracy alone in oil and gas doesn’t cut it. This book reframes personal branding not as vanity, but as leadership — and gives technical professionals a practical system for being seen.

01

FieldYour technical credibility — the work, the results, the rigor that earns you the right to speak.

02

FrameTurning what you know into a story a non-technical decision-maker actually remembers.

03

FeedShowing up consistently — from SCADA screens to social media, compliance reports to conferences.

Hey, I’m Yoshi

I went to a summer camp for engineering and never really left.

A high-school program at the University of Houston put me in a room with working petroleum engineers, and the thought that stuck was simple: I can make a difference in the world by applying math and science skills.

That took me to UT Austin for petroleum engineering, then a decade across the Midland and Delaware Basins — unconventional asset development and production engineering, ending as Lead Production Engineer at Chevron. Along the way: a master’s from Texas A&M, an MBA from Chicago Booth, a P.E. licence in two states, and a stack of SPE service work.

Today I’m Chief Growth Officer at OPX Ai, founder of IronLady Energy Advisors, and I teach as an adjunct professor at UT Arlington and UT Permian Basin. The through-line is the same one from that summer camp — making this industry legible to the people who want to build a career in it.
